One of the things I started to do when I moved to Boston two months ago was taking Judo classes. I really enjoy it. I like sparring with other kids in my class. I started as a white belt and I just got my first promotion to white with yellow tip. I also fought in my first tournament and got third place.
This week I searched “Judo” on the internet, here are some of the things I learned. Judo was created in Japan in 1882 by Kano Jigaro, it means “Gentle Way”. Judo is a competitive sport where the object is to throw or take down your opponent. There are three ways to score, “Ippon” equals one point and wins the match, “Waza-ari” equals half a point, and a “Yuko” is a small bonus point used as a tie breaker. Your rank in Judo is shown by your belt color, they go in this order; white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, black, white/red, and red.
